WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU CUT

Tree Removal in Woodinville, Wa

Woodinville is dedicated to maintaining its "Tree City USA" status. Because of this, the city uses a unique Tree Credit system to ensure that as the community grows, its canopy remains thick and healthy. At Western Washington Tree Service, we specialize in calculating these credits to ensure your project is in full compliance with Woodinville Municipal Code (WMC 21.50).

What is a "Significant Tree" in Woodinville?

Before you remove a tree, you need to know if it falls under city protection. In Woodinville, a tree is significant if:

Size: It has a diameter of 6 inches or greater (measured 4.5 feet above the ground).

Healthy Status: The city distinguishes between "fit" (healthy) trees and those that are dead, diseased, or hazardous.

Annual Allowance: On developed residential lots, you can typically remove up to two significant trees per calendar year, provided a minimum number of trees remain on the property.

Key Regulations & Requirements

Woodinville’s rules depend on whether you are doing construction or simply performing yard maintenance:

The 2-in-12 Rule: For standard residential lots (without active construction), you are typically allowed to remove two healthy trees within a 12-month period, or four within a 24-month period, provided you obtain a permit.

The Tree Credit Minimum: Every lot in Woodinville has a "Tree Credit" requirement based on its size and zoning. If removing a tree puts your property below that minimum, you must replant.

Replanting Ratio: If your property falls below the required density, the city generally requires a 3:1 replacement (three new trees for every one removed).
